Louwala AKA LULU

Lulu was a three strike wild horse from Cedar Mountain Utah. What's three strikes? Three strikes means anytime a wild horse or burro is offered for adoption to the public 3 times and fails to get adopted, they become a sale authority horse. That horse can now be sold to the public to anyone for 25$ without limitations.

Lulu is one of the lucky ones. She was pulled from the pens with 5 other three strike mares by @mustangmaddy to be gentled in the "Running Wild Retreat" ran by Madison Shambaugh. The retreat pairs 6 untamed wild horses with 6 human participants. Jamie pulled Lulu's number out of hat and for the next 12 days they would be working together.

Jamie didn't get very far. In fact she got a split second of her nose touching her hand which took 12 days to get. Lulu simply just needed time. After her retreat a second retreat came in to finish gentling the horses. Lulu still didn't get very far. Jamie decided to adopt Lulu, because she was afraid if she fell into the wrong impatient hands it would ultimately not end up so good for her (even though I knew Maddy would never let this happen, I still couldn't get it out of my head). Lulu stayed with Maddy for a year or so to work with her.

Over the past year, Jamie visited Lulu and Maddy a couple times and each time fell more and more in love with her.

Lulu has made a tremendous progress with Maddy and now calls Sage Hill in NJ her home.

Arnie

We saw Arnie online when a rescue posted him at a kill auction in Ohio. We worked with Omega Horse Rescue to get him out of there. Arnie is 31 years old, and we know that because we read the brand and figured out he was also from Nevada Wild Horse Range, in Nevada. We don't know what Arnie's life was like before he got here, but we do know he was in pain. He has really bad saddle sores & is extremely head shy just to name a few. However, Arnie quickly became a farm favorite at Sage Hill with his very VOCAL nickers when it's food time.

CLOVER

Clover was born in 2019 on the Sulphur HMA, and was gathered with eighteen other horses on August 16th, 2020. Clover was then put up for adoption in 2021, and was adopted and her journey then took her to southern Florida.

Here, her story goes haywire and pieces are still missing, because Clover and a Shetland pony were found roaming in southern Florida, emaciated, with no one caring for them. After someone reported seeing them, the South Florida SPCA Horse Rescue (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), after walking miles through fields and muck, were able to capture Clover and the Shetland pony, and begin providing the medical attention and nutrition they need.

Clover is the first official sanctuary resident for Wild Lands Wild Horses Fund in collaboration with Clare from Skydog Sanctuary! Clare’s experience, help, encouragement and guidance is paramount in bringing our first official sanctuary resident to NJ.

Clover has been thriving in NJ with her own herd to call family. In fact her little petite self is the lead mare over 2 TBs, 1 draft, and a 16 hand mustang.
